GOLF CLUB AT EAGLE MOUNTAIN
Exciting and Challenging Greens: Eagle Mountain Golf Club
Par: 71
Yardage: 5,065-6,802
Scott Miller spent his internship under famed architect/player Jack Nicklaus, and the influence of the Golden Bear is there at Eagle Mountain Golf Club. A rambling tract that runs up one hill and down the other, there never is a dull moment at Eagle Mountain Golf Club. Whether it's lofting a shot up the canyon from 100 feet below arriving at the tricky, multi-tiered green settings.
Even though Eagle Mountain has a couple blind shots, such as the two par-5s on the front nine (Nos.1 and 4), as well as ubiquitous bunkering and a little bit of water, this is a fun golf course that will require every shot in your bag. The variety of holes is wonderful, and the course builds to a crescendo with the 17th and 18th holes leaving lasting impressions. The closer (No.18) is the signature hole, as aright side of the fairway and nearby Red Mountain rising up in the distance.
The greens were redone in 2002 and smoother surfaces are hard to find in the Fountain Hills-Scottsdale area. The service at Eagle Mountain is also hard to beat, and the same could be said of the fabulous food and drinks.
Todd Massie's Tip: Eagle Mountain Golf Club is all about the greens if you plan on posting a good score. They're fast and furious, with undulations making lightning quick Stimpmeter readings. The fairways are fairly friendly and wider than most desert golf courses. You never will forget the 18th hole, as the drop from the tee to green is among the wildest rides in the Scottsdale area. |
